Day 1: Getting to know each other (Reflection)

On Monday we dedicated the day to get to know eachother.

The MakerLab presentation can be found here

Then, we asked the Makers attending the first day to answer those questions (and invited people that was not there to send us their image) In this way we hope to frame the theme for this MakerLab between everybody taking part.

What do you want to do? What do you want to know about?

MakerLab Kick off: Monday 02 April 2012 @ Superground, Milan

MakerLab Milan 2012 explores Openness, Participativeness, and Collaborativeness providing a space for local thinkers and doers to prototype answers to some of the current challenges cities have to deal with by involving the public.

Therefore the challenge for this new edition of the Makerlab is:

“How to involve the public to multiply the effect of those actions that we -Disrupters- want to implement?”.

During a two-weeks-residency (1st to 15th April @ Superground, via Bussola) we co-work with creatives to develop an interactive public intervention for the Public Design Festival (17th to 21st April @ Cascina Cuccagna, via Muratori).Everyday we will set a task that will be accomplished by the local team and invite contributions of MakerLab-supporters based elsewhere. At night we open the doors for fellow makers, friends and visitors to come and share food, projects, utopias with us.

How to get involved:

The makerlab is open for people to involve in different ways according to what you want to do

  • Be part of the team and contribute to the whole process
  • Co-Work at the Superground. You can use our temporary co-working space at the Superground to work on your own projects.
  • Submit insights. Everyday we will post the task for the next day, everybody is invited to take part by sending us their contribution via facebook, blog, twitter, flickr….
  • Propose a workshop for the public intervention.
  • Or come to the Superground and share dinner with us(from the 2nd to the 15th April 2012)

Day 1 task:

If you can’t come today (Monday) send us a picture of yourself  with a banner where you state two questions in relation to the theme stated above.

  • What do you want to do?
  • What do you want to learn about?

CeBeta – Coworking at Europe’s Biggest Tech Fair

CeBIT is Europe’s biggest consumer technology fair. Over 5 days and across 26 halls, big-name businesses, middle players and startup companies showcase their products, drawing crowds in their hundreds of thousands. The annual expo, held in the Hannover Fair Grounds, usually attracts a certain attendee: buyers, distributors and company representatives, suited and corporate, come together to compete against one another, showcasing products that have been created in firms with closed-house policies. In essence, it represents the antithesis of the coworking movement, which is based on principles of collaboration, co-creation, and openness.

This is partly the reason why, this year, betahaus was invited to CeBIT to introduce the concept of working collaboratively to the corporate world. The space that was created was in every way different to the other stands populating the expo, and came into being with the help of dozens of individuals from different professional backgrounds. Together, we created an environment which reflected the betahaus philosophy.

JAY – core group, project coordinator/catalyst/facilitator: We went to CeBIT with the objective to bring our culture – the Spirit of Betahaus and Coworking communities in general – into the CeBit Global Conference. For those familiar with the conference this is no small task as the environment is somewhat formal, austere, tightly scheduled, organized and controlled. Coworking, by contrast, is distinctly informal, chaotic, and evolving. Ironically, in order to create an open space of engagement, we had to create our own walls, and build an environment where our participants felt at home.

Makerplatz

There is a place in Berlin, where Moritzplatz used to be.

Makerplatz.

A hub for makers.

Here there are resources, marketplaces, and infrastructures for people who make things.

At Makerplatz you can find materials, both for sale, and for free (“waste”), you can find Laser Cutters, printers for any material including 3D models, you can find giant cameras, gardens, desks with internet for the Web creators, and physical tools for their offline cousins. Here you will find communities of all types, and builders of communities where the need is not yet met.

Here you can find spaces to make pretty much anything.
