MakerLab Milan 2012 explores Openness, Participativeness, and Collaborativeness providing a space for local thinkers and doers to prototype answers to some of the current challenges cities have to deal with by involving the public.
Therefore the challenge for this new edition of the Makerlab is:
“How to involve the public to multiply the effect of those actions that we -Disrupters- want to implement?”.
How to get involved:
- Be part of the team and contribute to the whole process
- Co-Work at the Superground. You can use our temporary co-working space at the Superground to work on your own projects.
- Submit insights. Everyday we will post the task for the next day, everybody is invited to take part by sending us their contribution via facebook, blog, twitter, flickr….
- Propose a workshop for the public intervention.
- Or come to the Superground and share dinner with us(from the 2nd to the 15th April 2012)
Day 1 task:
If you can’t come today (Monday) send us a picture of yourself with a banner where you state two questions in relation to the theme stated above.
- What do you want to do?
- What do you want to learn about?
- Co-Work a Superground.
- Cosa vuoi fare?
- Cosa vuoi imparare?

What happens when you take a group of Makers, a couple of tools and some innovative processes to the streets of Milan?
This was what the MakerLab Milan expedition sought to find out, in doing so engaging with the public and the Milan Maker Scene.
Taking with us Makers and Creative Activists from different fields of expertise and experience, and combining them with tools, resources and public space, we occupied different public venues in Milan, each time engaging with different groups. Instigating the public to think about their public space as a playground, where they are able to design and encourage to build that what they need to enjoy the public space or even to foster that what they dream with.
The MakerLab will continue to develop from what we learn in Milan, into a space for sharing, learning and most important Make theories into actions.

The MakerLab Milan will take place within the third edition of the Public Design Festival. From 12th to 17th of April 2011.
We share many of the questions that the Public Design Festival stands for, and thought it would be a great opportunity to collaborate in the design , not just of the public space, but of our common futures by developing new ways of co-working and building the network of people that care for similar things.
How is it possible to make the urban environment surrounding us more comfortable, beautiful, and functional? How can design change and improve the relationship between people and the spaces surround them?
Think public: that’s the only way to survive in contemporary societies. That means sharing thoughts, ideas, and opinions, and being open to exchanges, information, and the development of new projects and collaborations. It means getting to know each other, your neighbours, and your city, with its little squares, lanes, and hidden corners. It means experiencing the city, rather than just cross it, imagining how it could be, and trying to awarely re-design it.
The festival will transform the public space of Milan. In each of the locations different public design interventions for the redesign of urban spaces will take place, as a citizen, we hope you can come by and help us redesigning the public space for all at this locations:
Cavalcavia Bussa / Cascina Cuccagna / Piazzale Cadorna / Rubattino
Finally but not less important, the Closing party will be held at the Parco Esposizioni Novegro, on Saturday, 16th of April
We hope to see you there, where we gonna be live- prototyping furniture, but also open to your ideas!
If you are a designer you might also be interested in the market with will take place at the same spot during the afternoon!
