Many of the objects we consume today are made by very complex processes in far away lands. While this has helped to lower the costs and, at the same time, make them more accesible to more people, we are loosing the connection with those processes that once were images of a culture.
For the I,Culture project we are looking for people who are interested in knowing more about which crafts have shaped our culture in the past, What are new crafts, and How traditional craft techniques could be used for a new purpose which is in tune with today’s needs.
We are building a team of 20 volunteers that would like to research these topics, to later on make a public day action where we will share with the passers by what we have learned.
As part of this project you will take part in a 3 day workshop with the artist Monika Jakubiak, where you will share with the other volunteers your findings and learn the art of sewing. Then, on the forth day, we will all take over Alexander Platz and set a public workshop day, where we will instigate the public to take part, learn about the different process and make something with their hands.

Eine ganze Menge der Produkte, die wir heute konsumieren, sind durch sehr komplexe Prozesse in fernen Ländern hergestellt worden.DADURCH WERDEN DIE KOSTEN GESENKT UND VIELE MENSCHEN KOENNEN SICH DIESE PRODUKTE LEISTEN.Gleichzeitig verlieren wir JEDOCH gerade die Verbindung zu jenen Prozessen, die ehemals Abbilder DER JEWEILIGEN Kultur waren.
Für DAS „I, CULTURE“ Projekt sind wir auf der Suche nach Leute, die SICH fuer Handwerk interessieren: Welche Handwerke haben unsere Kultur in der Vergangenheit geformt/gepraegt; Welche neuen Handwerke existieren heute; und wie koennen traditionelle Handwerkstechniken fuer neue Zwecke, die im Einklang mit heutigen Bedürfnissen sind, bewahrt werden.
Wir gruenden ein Team von 20 Freiwilligen, die gerne ueber diese Themen forschen moechten, um später, waehrend einer öffentlichen Aktion, anderen Leuten mitzuteilen, was gelernt wurde.
Im Rahmen dieses Projekts wirst DU an einem 3-taegigen Workshop im August mit der Künstlerin Monika Jakubiak teilnehmen: Du koenntest Deine Erkenntnisse mit anderen Freiwilligen teilen und ausserdem gibt es die Moegligkeit die Kunst des Nähens zu erlernen. Am 4. Tag wird auf dem Alexanderplatz ein öffentlicher Workshop stattfinden, wo die Öffentlichkeit zur Teilnahme eingeladen wird, um etwas über die verschiedenen Handwerksverfahren zu lernen und etwas eigenes mit ihren Händen zu gestalten.
